This site is devoted to copyright and issues of 'intellectual property,' particularly the issue's analytical aspects. It also concerns itself with the gap between public perception and the true facts, and with the significant lag time between the coverage on more technical sites and the mainstream press. Blu-Ray writers are down to $300. At 200 I bought my first CD burner, and similar for DVD burner. The curious thing this time is that AFAIK the Blu-Ray readers/players themselves still aren't down to these price points. My guess is that part of the expense is that it requires some serious computing power (the first BR standalone players had 1+ Ghz chips in them IIRC), which dropping a burner into your computer avoids.
Could the economics of this be the thing that finally drives home media center adoption (e.g. combining computers with TV/movie activities for most people, because it is a few hundred cheaper than separate boxes)?

Rumor has it that Lawrence Lessig is quitting copyright to work on corruption instead. I'm sure he'll do great good there, but it's a sad day for copyright. Certain recent posts now make more sense, however.

Restrictive licenses are not a new thing. It'd be interesting to go back to the precursor of the LP, the piano roll, and see if any of those had similarly verbose licenses.

Lessig eloquently comments on the recent Google laptop theft, and in so doing hits many larger points.
